The day provided K-12 teachers the opportunity to learn about and visit local industry settings. There, they explored science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) career options for students and skills needed so that they can reflect this in their curriculum.

Participating companies included: Brookhaven National Laboratory, Northwell Health, Catholic Health Services, Composite Prototyping Center, Cradle of Aviation, , HIA-LI (Biodex, Portnoy Messinger Pearl), Maritime Explorium, New York Institute of Technology – Entrepreneurship & Technology Innovation Center and School of Health Professionals, PSEG Long Island, Microsoft retail at Walt Whitman Mall and We Connect the Dots.

“Our teachers have a huge influence on students, “ said Kenneth White, Co-Steward of the Long Island STEM Hub, Founding Director, Portal to Discovery and Manager, Office of Educational Programs Brookhaven National Labs. “We believe by introducing our educators to industry partners in science, healthcare, engineering, manufacturing, aerospace, and information technology is an important step in our regional collaboration to build our next generation workforce.”
